Stefano BISOFFI (Italian, 60 years old, married, three daughters) is the Scientific Director of the Consiglio per la Ricerca e la sperimentazione in Agricoltura (CRA), the main agricultural research organization in Italy, linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests.
He has a background in Forest Genetics and served for 25 years as researcher and then Director of the Poplar Research Institute of Casale Monferrato (now CRA-PLF).
From 2000 to 2012 he was the Chairman of the International Poplar Commission, a statutory body of FAO of which he is currently a member of the Executive Committee. At present he supports the Italian delegation to the Standing Committee on Agricultural Research and he is a member of the SCAR Working Group and of the group of experts supporting the Italian Representative in the Programme Committee for Societal Challenge 2 in Horizon 2020.
In 2007 he received the Friendship Award of the People’s Republic of China.
He is a member of the International Biometric Society, of the Project Management Institute, of the Italian Academy of Forest Sciences, of the Italian Society for Agricultural Genetics and of the Italian Society of Silviculture and Forest Ecology.
