Stefania Giannini is new Minister of Education, University and Research.

Born in Lucca on November 18 1960, Stefania Giannini has a long academic career as linguist and glottologist. In 1999, she became full professor of Glottology and Linguistics at the University for Foreigners Perugia and in 2004 she became Rector of this University. In 2007, she served as government expert on immigration and multilingualism at the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, while in 2010 she became a member of the National Commission for the Promotion of Italian Culture abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Author of over fifty scientific and educational publications on specialized national and international journals, in 2011 Stefania Giannini was given the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. She was elected member of the Senate during the political elections of February 2013.
