Lucia GardossiHead of the Laboratory of Applied and Computational Biocatalysis - University of Trieste
Professor Lucia Gardossi received her PhD in medicinal chemistry at the University of Trieste in collaboration with the University of Milan. Her research activity has been always focused on biocatalysis and the application of enzymes in industrial processes. From 1989 to 1991 she worked as research associate at the Department of Chemistry of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA). After two-year experience in industry, in 1995 she moved to the University of Trieste where she is currently the head of the Laboratory of Applied and Computational Biocatalysis.
In 2007 she has been among the co-founders of a spin-off of the University of Trieste (SPRIN S.p.A., Technologies for sustainable chemistry). From 2009 to 2012 she coordinated a bilateral EU-Russia scientific project within the 7° Framework programme (“IRENE”: In silico Rational Engineering of Novel Enzymes) and currently she is the vice chair of the Advisory group of the European Commission for Horizon 2020 that covers Societal Challenge 2 (Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Marine and maritime and inland water research and the Bioeconomy). She has also collaborated with ICS-UNIDO and with the European Commission in programs and working groups aiming at defining priorities and trends in the field of industrial biotechnology, bio-economy and sustainable chemistry.
